Electrical/Electronics Engineering Technology

The department was established in 1995, with a total of five (5) permanent staff and other part-time staff to compliment the permanent staff. The Department got a go ahead by Resource Visitation Team from NBTE to run the programme from the 1996/1997 Session, first accreditated in 2001, re-accredidated in 2006 and 2011. The department which started with one equipped general Engineering laboratory and/ workshop now has eight (8) laboratories and/ workshops. The classrooms in the department are four, which can comfortably accommodate 60 students at a time. These classrooms are supplemented by lecture theatres in the Polytechnic. Since 1998 to date, the Department has been graduating students at National Diploma level in Electrical/Electronic Engineering Technology. This National Diploma run in Department has been fully accredited by the National board for technical education (NBTE) up to June, 2019. Currently, the Department has been given an approval by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) in 2018 to start running Higher National Diploma (HND) Programme in Electronics & Telecommunications and Power & Machine options. The Department has eight (8) office accommodations, twelve (12) Academic Staff, Seven (7) technical staff and two (2) administrative staff presently.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENT

(1) NATIONAL DIPLOMA (ND)

The entry requirements for National Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology are:
 (1) Four Credit level passes at senior school certificate examination (SSCE) or its equivalent at not more than TWO sittings.The four subjects must include Mathematics, Physics and any TWO       other science subjects. At least a pass in English Language is required.
 (2) The National Technician Certificate (NTC) in electrical trade with credit passes in Mathematics, Physics and ONE other subject. Also a pass in English Language is mandatory.
 (3) Four credit passes in an NBTE recognized preliminary ND course offered in a polytechnics or similar Post secondary technical institution. The credit passes must include       Mathematics,Physics any TWO Science subjects. Candidates must in addition obtain at least a pass in English Language.

(2) HIGHER NATIONAL DIPLOMA (HND)

The general entry requirements for the HND programme include:
i) All the requirements for admission into the ND programme;
ii) A minimum of Lower Credit Pass (CGPA 2.50 and above ) in the ND examination in Electrical/Electronics

GRADUATION REQUIREMENT


(1) NATIONAL DIPLOMA (ND)

Institutions offering accredited programmes will award the National Diploma to candidates who successfully completed the programme after passing prescribed course work, examinations, diploma project and the supervised industrial work experience. Such candidates should have completed a minimum of between 65 ? 75 semester credit units depending on the programme.
Diplomas shall be classified as follows:
Distinction ? GPA of 3.50 ? 4.00
Upper Credit ? GPA of 3.00 ? 3.49
Lower Credit ? GPA of 2.50 ? 2.99
Pass ? GPA of 2.00 ? 2.49
Fail ? GPA of below 2.00.

2) HIGHER NATIONAL DIPLOMA (HND)

Institutions offering accredited programmes will award the Higher National Diploma to candidates who successfully completed the programme after passing prescribed course work, examinations, and diploma project. Such candidates should have completed a minimum of between 72 and 80 Semester Credit Units. Diploma shall be classified as follows:
i) Distinction: ? GPA of 3.50 and above
ii) Upper Credit: ? GPA of 3.00 and 3.49
iii) Lower Credit: ? GPA of 2.50 and 2.99
iv) Pass ? GPA of 2.00 and 2.49
v) Fail ? GPA of below 2.00.
